Who I Am
Hi, I'm Laurence. I decided to write this blog to document my FIRE journey and investment experiences, specifically in Peer to Peer lending. Every month I'll post a review here on some of the various Peer to Peer lenders I intend to be investing with and information about my FIRE journey.
I started Peer to Peer Investing in 2014 with investments in various Peer to Peer lending companies. Since then I have grown my money to over 50% of what it was before.
My goal is to share some wisdom about investing without boring you to tears. On route you will find timely, relevant content that tells you how to make more money, keep more of your hard earned cash, and invest so that it works for you over time.
The main focus of my blog is on investing, because that’s what I most enjoy writing about, but retiring early is another topic that I discuss quite a lot.
In my career I have worked in various jobs but mostly in project management around the world. Now I am retired and living in Europe. I have many close friends and family members who are interested in learning how to invest correctly. I started my blog and website to help them out and show them how to become Financially Independent and Retire Early (also known as FIRE). See here for more information on FIRE https://financial-independence.eu/
I joined the FIRE movement many years ago and became financially independent just a few years ago.
The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement is a lifestyle movement whose goal is financial independence and retiring early. It is generally a community of people who use blogs and social media to transmit and get support on their financial goals.
Those seeking to attain FIRE intentionally maximize their savings rate by finding ways to increase income or decrease expenses. The objective is to accumulate assets until the resulting passive income provides enough money for living expenses in perpetuity.
Many proponents of the FIRE movement suggest the 4% rule as a guide, thus setting a goal of at least 25 times estimated annual living expenses. Upon reaching financial independence, paid work becomes optional, allowing for retirement from traditional work decades earlier than the standard retirement age.
Hopefully my blog will help you to invest correctly and intelligently so you also can retire early.
Staying retired: It’s been over 3 years since I retired and life has been great. I’m usually very busy with my house and blog. Notice that I didn’t say ‘stop working’ in the first paragraph. You don’t have to stop working when you retire. Many people volunteer, turn a hobby into a business, or start a second career when they retire. Every early retiree I know is still working in some capacity. It’s not good for your mental health to stop working completely while you’re still productive.
